Faculty workshop on Teaching Methods and Adolescent Management
was organized by Centre for Innovation in Science And Social
Action(CISSA) in association with P.A. Aziz College of
Engineering & Technology(PAACET) at Seminar Hall, P.A.Aziz
College of Engineering and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram during
24-26 July 2009. Sri.Mohammed Thaha, Chairman, P.A. Aziz College
of Engineering & Technology was inaugurated the function.
Sri.R.Harikumar, ANERT,Dr. P.R. Sreemahadevan Pillai, Principal,
P.A. Aziz College of Engineering & Technology Dr.K.G.Ajitkumar,
Professor, M.G.College spoke on the occasion.
Dr.
Prof. T.S.N. Pillai, Prof. and HOD (Retd.), MSW Program, Loyola
College of Social Sciences who gave ‘A Preface to the Programme’
explained the qualities of a perfect teacher and how to approach
the students in terms of teaching subjects. He also pointed out
that to some extent teachers must share the personal problems of
the students within the class room.
An session on ‘Classroom management’ was delivered by Dr. P.R.
Sreemahadevan Pillai, Principal, P. A. Aziz college of
Engineering & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram. He dealt with the
points on modifying the learning style of teachers to suit that
of students. He stressed on the point that the role of teacher
is not merely teaching, but also as a group facilitator in the
class room.
Dr. Amar Fettile, Pediatrician, General Hospital,
Thiruvananthapuram, enlightened the audience by giving a session
on ‘Developmental Changes of Adolescents and Psychosexual
problems’.
An informative session on ‘Information Skill for Teachers’ was
delivered by Dr. Achuthsankar S. Nair, Director, Centre for
Bioinformatics, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. He
described various sources of information from websites which are
useful to teachers.
Lots of activities were incorporated in the session titled,
Human Relationships: Parent-Student-Teacher presented by Dr. S.
Girija, Director, Centre for Health Intelligence Learning and
Development (CHILD), Kochi.
A session on Basics of Teaching was delivered by Er. P.
Vijayachandran FIE, Past Chairman, The Institute of
Engineers(Kerala State Centre), Thiruvananthapuram. He explained
about motivating students and he encouraged the participants for
pursuing the teaching profession.
Dr. K. A. Kumar, Former Director of Medical Education, Kerala –
Identification of Problems in Crisis Situations. He explained
about various psychological problems of adolescent and how to
approach and handle the situations tactfully. He explained about
the need of the faculty to become role models.
Adv. B. Premakumaran Nair, a leading advocate, Kerala Law
Academy Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, lectured on Ragging,
Violence-Legal Aspects. He created awareness among the teachers
on the legal aspects of how to regulate the violated activities
created by students in the adolescent age. He also explained
some of the strategies under Indian Penal Code related to this
issue.
The last session was given by Mrs. Novma Money, Mental Health
Professional, Thiruvananthapuram, who emphasized on the
Counseling & Management of Adolescent Problems. She explained
the various psychological approaches that teachers can adopt to
counsel the students having different varied problems.
Sri.Ajith Venniyoor, IEC Expert (KSUDP) & Secretary (CISSA)
addressed the audience during the valedictory function. 70
teachers participated in the workshop. |
