The five-day National Exhibition ‘URJA 2009’ on Energy Efficient
and Renewable Energy Products and Technologies was held from May
21 to 25, 2009 at the Town Hall, Ernakulam, Kochi. The
exhibition was organized by the Society of Energy Engineers and
Managers (SEEM) and Centre for Innovation in Science and Social
Action (CISSA) in association with Total Energy Security
Mission(TESM), ANERT, Energy Management Centre(EMC), World
Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE), Pune.
Worshipful Mayor of Kochi, Prof. Mercy Williams Inaugurated the
Exhibition. Sri A M Narayanan, Director of ANERT (Agency for Non
Conventional Energy and Rural Technology) presided over the
Inaugural function. Inaugurating the show, Mayor Mercy Williams
underlined the need for the technologies to be taken to the
masses. She also urged the experts to provide enough information
to the administrators on bringing the energy efficiency in
buildings. Dr. C. Sureshkumar,General Secretary ,CISSA, Sri. C.
Jayaraman, General Secretary, SEEM, Sri. V.R. Sabu, Convener of
the exhibition, Sri. G. Krishnakumar, Chief Operating Officer,
SEEM, Sri. Mukundavalsalan, Marketing Head, Kirloskar Brothers
Limited also spoke.
The exhibition intended to promote energy efficiency, and
renewable energy and thus to support the global movement to
solve the energy crisis by making discernible positive changes
in the attitude of the consumer. More than 60 representatives,
who work in the field of research and development and sales of
Energy Efficient and Renewable Energy equipment in the country,
participated in the exhibition. Wood stoves, solar pumps, solar
photovoltaic inverters, solar water heaters and solar lighting
systems, LED lighting, domestic and industrial bio gas plants,
wind mills etc were some of the highlights of the exhibition. A
lamp that could be powered through simple pedaling and a handy
emergency light that gets energy from a mobile charger that
derives power by simple rotation of a handle were among other
interesting products on show. An innovation in small capacity
wind power turbine was also demonstrated in the exhibition. A
technology to convert solar power into alternating current which
could be used in gadgets that use low input of solar power was
another exhibit. Measures to save energy through the application
of innovative technologies came in sharp focus at the show.
An exhibition of photographs, compiled as a part of National
Photographic Competition on energy conservation/ renewable
energy sources/ environment conservation was also organized
along with URJA 2009.
URJA SANDHYA a debate and discussion forum organized along with
the Exhibition was well appreciated and many local public and
experts participated in it. Hon’ble Minister Sri S Sharma
Inaugurated the URJA SANDHYA and Sri K Babu, M. L. A delivered
the presidential address.
The Energy Awareness programmes by Sri Vinod Narnat- the famous
ventriloquist- was one of the attractions and a magic show on
Energy by Magician Ezhupunna Gopinath was also organized in
connection with the exhibition.
The exhibition which showcased variety of Renewable energy
products and other new generation technologies evoked good
response from visitors from all walks of life. Dignitaries who
visited the exhibition included Adv. Jose Thettayil, M.L.A Sri.
L. Radhakrishnan IAS, Principal Secretary Power and Ports, Dr.
M. P. Sukumaran Nair, Special Secretary to Chief Minister, Sri.
K. Sukumaran, Retd. Justice, High Court of Kerala, , CEO’s of
many organizations, engineering professionals, architects,
contractors, entrepreneurs, panchayat officials, teachers,
school and college students. This indicates the increase in
public awareness regarding the impending energy crisis and the
general interest to learn more about energy efficient products
and its applications.
Among the Exhibitors the Best Stall Award was awarded to M/S
Kirloskar Brothers Ltd., the First Runner up was M/S Team
Sustain and the Second Runner up was M/S Windcare India Pvt.
Ltd.; Special Appreciation Award was received by M/S Geolite and
M/S Universal Electronic Solutions (I) Pvt. Ltd.; Best
Innovative Product Award was received by M/S Luke Electronic
Devices Pvt. Ltd. (M/S Geolite) and M/S TMC Automation.; Most
Popular Product Award went to M/S Global Telelinks.
A lucky dip was also conducted from the registration form of
visitors and the prize was won by Sri. Prakash, Palakkad. The
prize sponsored by Club Mahindra Holidays was free stay for two
nights and three days in properties of Club Mahindra Holidays
anywhere in India.
The media, both print and electronic, have given an excellent
coverage of the exhibition, which resulted in attracting large
crowd and, thereby, not only making the event a great success,
but also encouraged the organizers to make this exhibition a
regular event every year. |
