URJA 2008 – Exhibition was organized jointly by Centre for
Innovations in Science & Social Action (CISSA) and Society of
Energy Engineers & Managers (SEEM) at Town Hall, Ernakulam,
Kerala, during 23 to 27 June 2008.
This Exhibition - a first of its kind in Kerala- was organized
to showcase and create awareness among Industries, Organizations
both in the private and public sectors as well as among general
public about conservation of energy, energy efficient &
renewable energy products and technologies.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Hon: Member of Parliament from
Cochin Dr. Sebastian Paul and the Key Note address was delivered
by
Mr. L. Radhakrishnan, IAS, secretary, Ministry of power, Govt.
of Kerala.
In this exhibition 45 exhibitors from all over India have
participated showcasing various products, such as ,solar water
heaters, solar invertors, solar lighting systems, LED & CFL
lights, electronic chokes, energy saving products, energy
efficient pumps, energy measuring instruments, bio-diesel,
bio-gas, bio-gasiffiers, green & low cost building construction,
wind energy, smoke free choolas, energy efficient capacitors,
innovative products like Hand Cranking Flash Light & Mobile
Charger and Pedal Power Generating Station, which converts
Physical energy to usable electrical power, Books and leaflets
on how to save energy and energy efficient products.
Besides the above exhibitors, there were also energy award
winning industries, other NGOs working in the field of Energy
Conservation as participants. The Exhibitors also included Govt:
departments such as Indian Railways, Kerala state electricity
board, ANERT (Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural
Technology), Energy management centre, WISE (World Institute of
Sustainable Energy) etc.
During the exhibition video shows- including “Nobel Prize”
winner Al Gore’s award winning documentary “Inconvenient Truth”
- were arranged along with screening of various films concerning
environment, water, energy savings, global warming etc. Energy
conservation society has arranged quiz competition among various
school students with a view to create awareness among children
on the subjects of energy conservation and renewable energy
sources.
There was a Photo exhibition in the venue, displaying 300
photographs submitted for the photo contest conducted by SEEM on
the “energy and environment”. The cash award for the winners of
this photo contest was distributed during the inaugural function
of the exhibition. Also, many posters were displayed in the
venue highlighting the salient points of the Energy Conservation
Act and various activities carried out by the Bureau of Energy
Efficiency, like energy labeling.
The valedictory function of the exhibition was chaired by Dr,
Arun P Kulshrestha, Director of Centre for Science & Technology
for Non- Aligned and other developing countries ( New Delhi ).
Three prizes were awarded to the exhibitors. The first prize was
received by Indian Railways for showcasing production of
bio-diesel. The second prize was received by M/s. Team sustain,
who showcased solar products,bio-diesel, bio-gas and bio-gasiffiers.
The third prize went to M/s. Envirofit, showcasing various
models of energy efficient & smokeless choolas. All the
exhibitors were given participation certificates and gifts.
The exhibition attracted huge crowd and was visited by people
from all walks of life, such as educational and technical
institution, electrical, mechanical and civil contractors,
panchayat secretaries&presidents, engineers from various
industries, estate owners, electrical traders, architects,
consultants etc. besides general public. Also, the delegates
from 20 Non- Aligned movement countries who participated in the
International workshop organized by SEEM on “ Cleaner production
& Energy conservation for sustainability” at Cochin have visited
this exhibition and had one- to- one discussions with many
exhibitors. They appreciated the technological advancement of
Indian manufactures in the energy and environment Industries.
Although the entry to the exhibition was free, special invitee
passes were issued to various sections of people, officials,
VIPs etc., with a view to encourage them to visit the exhibition
and get acqainted with the new technologies and alternative
energy sources.
A lucky-dip prize was held for the visitors and the winner was
Mr. Abdul Salam from Thoppumpady, Kochi. The prize was sponsored
by three of the exhibitors, namely, CEMA, LIFEWAY & PRAKRUTI.
The media, both print and electronic, have given an excellent
coverage of the exhibition, which resulted in attracting huge
crowd and, thereby, not only making the event a great success,
but also encouraged the organizers to make this exhibition a
regular event every year.
This exhibition has also helped to generate good amount of
enquiries, resulting in substantial orders to all most all
exhibitors, thereby, guaranteeing increased business through
this important event. |
