Workshop on Lightning Protection

The one-day workshop on “Lightning Protection” organized by
Centre for Indian Sciences and Social Action (CISSA) is
association with Lightening Awareness Cell- Regional Energy
Centre, Thiruvananthapuram and South Asian Lightning Information
and resources Centre, Sri Lanka was a unique one of its kind in
the capital city of Kerala. Dr. Ramachandran Nair, the Honorable
Vice-chancellor, University of Kerala, inaugurated the workshop
on the 26th October 2006 10 AM at Hotel Pankaj, statue,
Thiruvananthapuram. In the inaugural function Dr. Sasikumar
(Scientist, CESS & Chairman, organizing committee) delivered the
welcome speech and Dr. Bijukumar (Scientist, Bio-diversity board
and Academic Secretary, CISSA) has delivered the vote of thanks.
Dr. G.G Gangadharan, President, CISSA has presided over the
function.
The first technical session was handled by Prof. (Dr.) G. R.
Nagabhushana, AICTE Emeritus Fellow, High Voltage Engineering,
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. In his highly
appreciated key presentation, he has enlightened the audience
about the basic phenomena of lightning and the various popular
techniques widely adopted worldwide for lightning protection. He
has also discussed about the lightning protection of structures
and the risk assessment involved.
