VALEDICTORY FUNCTION

The Valedictory Session was inaugurated by Sri Mullakkara
Retnakaran, Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture, Govt. of Kerala in
a well attended function presided over by Dr. M. P. Nayar,
former Director, Botanical Survey of India. The event was
addressed by Sri A. Govindarajan IPS, Director, Postal Services,
Kerala Circle, Dr. K. Prathapan, Director, State Horticulture
Mission, Dr. G. Sunil Kumar, NRHM (Kerala), Dr. N S Pradeep,
Scientist, TBGRI and Dr. C. Sureshkumar, General Secretary,
CISSA. The Hon'ble Minister Sri Mullakkara Retnakaran in his
address quoted the famous Sanskrit dictum Annam Brahmam,
pointing to the great wisdom of the ancients about the sanctity
of food. A value that still exists in the interior villages,
where according to him, people consider food as divine. An
unpolluted earth, water and most important an unpolluted mind,
are primary for getting unpolluted food, the Minister said.
Modern agro-technologies have done a lot of harm, by replacing
the native agricultural practices. The Minister wished that the
movement for good food sustain with the core commitment to
Dharma, which Gandhiji advocated. Hon'ble Minister also released
the special cover brought out by postal department to
commemorate the occasion. The session ended with the
distribution of prizes by the Minister and presentation of the
Annam 2008 Declaration.
